Heeter) Subject: W2WT: Tournament Statistics for Round A [ Random information that you might enjoy reading... ] [ *** This is "in character" and comments about the characteristics of varions warlords should *NOT* be taken seriously!!! *** ] Mighty Warlords - 140 Warlords from 19 countries on 5 continents remain active in the Tournament! Here is how the tournament has evolved: During May, June, and July, thousands of Warlords were contacted by tournament messengers, and 276 Warlords registered for the tournament by the July 31 final late-entry deadline. They all had the curiosity to compete! All 276 players were contacted again and assigned to a PBEM buddy. But 45 of those 276 never bothered to respond to their Buddy. * Apparently some Warlords had curiosity, but they lacked enthusiasm! Another 37 of the 276 changed their minds and withdrew their entries before the start of the Practice Round. * Apparently some Warlords had enthusiasm, but lacked motivation! Some 22 warlords were assigned to Practice Round games, but they never made a move. * Apparently some Warlords had motivation, but lacked courage! During the Practice Round, 10 players chose to withdraw, for various reasons (some of which were quite entertaining!). Another 12 became Lost Players and vanished without a trace. * These players showed their courage, but where was their dedication? Finally, 10 more will finish the Practice Round honorably, but they decided not to continue in Round A. There is no shame in that! Now, 140 warlords remain. We 140 are the true competitors: Our motivation cannot be questioned. Our dedication is undeniable. Our courage has been proven in the battles of the Practice Round. We have all dedicated ourselves to completing Round A as well. You are one of us, the Warlords of the World Tournament! But who are we? Who is left? * 50 of us play Warlords on Macs, and 90 use PCs. * Half of us play with PC-Deluxe, a fifth use Mac-Classic, about 1 in 7 use Mac-Deluxe, and 1 in 7 have PC-Classic Warlords. * We come from 19 countries on 5 continents. This is truly the Warlords II WORLD Tournament! * About half of us (74) are from the United States, just over a fifth (29) come from other English-speaking countries (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain), and a bit more than one fourth (37) come from non-English speaking countries (especially Sweden and France). * At the start of the Practice Round, 1/3 of the players were from non-English-speaking countries, but as one might expect, they had more trouble learning the rules and the Remailer and staying in the tournament. Now the non-native-English speakers number only 1/4 of the players in Round A.
