Overview of Dirk Pellet's Reviews

Introduction to Warlords II Scenario Reviews series

(Written by Dirk Pellet)
This is the beginning of a series of reviews of Warlords II scenarios.
I've been an avid Warlords player since the first version, and I've
collected many scenarios to review.

I will be rating them in the following areas (in order of importance):

Weight Area
10 Army capabilities -- how varied, how well balanced for playability
7 Strategic map design -- how interesting, how well balanced, how
well it creates opportunities for strategy and tactics, etc
5 Army pictures -- subjective judgement on the artwork
5 City pictures -- subjective judgement on the artwork
3 Background information included with the scenario
2 City and ruins names and descriptions to make the scenario unique
2 Items and hero names that make the game more amusing

Of course, if a scenario uses the default army set, army pics, or city
pics, then it gets a rating based on their quality -- and I think there's
room for improvement in all of them.

The final score for a scenario will be based on the score for each area
times the weight which I've assigned. It's my feeling that a well-balanced
set of army units with a well-designed strategic map make an excellent
scenario, even if the designer isn't a great artist. But the player spends
much time looking at the cities and armies, and if they're awesome, they
enhance the enjoyment of the whole scenario.

Each review will describe the scenario's basic theme, number of sides,
cities, and ruins, and give its strengths and shortcomings in as much
detail as I think is necessary. I'll include brief quotes from the author
if included with the scenario, and recommend game options for best play.

Comments in response to any review, suggestions for things to add to later
reviews, etc, will be appreciated (though not necessarily answered, unless
time permits).
